Blogging 101

Filed Under (blog) by kimloon on 14-01-2010

If writing is an art, then, blogging is one way of using words to come up with an art. This is because people who are into blogging are the ones who are artistic on their own sense, carefully choosing words that would best describe their feelings, sentiments, wishes, desires, and everything.

Basically, blogs were first introduced as weblogs that refer to a “server’s log file.” It was created when web logging hit the virtual market. Since its inception in the mid-1990s, web logging gradually saturated the virtual community making the Internet a viable source of greater information.

Recently, Joel Therien of GoGVO.com sent us an email on the latest Wordpress iFrame Attack and security issue.

Because I had limited Internet Access for the past week, I only noticed this mail yesterday. I had a shock when I went over to the Wordpress Blog Sites I maintained. Most of them showed only a blank page.

Importance of Getting Reliable Tools for Internet Business

Filed Under (Internet Business Resource, blog) by kimloon on 06-11-2009

There are many free resources or tools out there for Internet Business. Are these free tools reliable for Internet Business?

A successful Blogger, Alvin, of Gather Success, shared his unpleasant experiences for using free web hosting and other free tools when he was starting out in his recent post. For some unknown reasons, his free accounts were suspended. He had to go through a series of trouble to re-work his internet business.

I highly recommend people to read his post on this experience here.

I also have my bad experiences in using the free tools and resources for the Internet Business. One of commonly used tools was a link cloaking program or tools to make an URL short.

Why Plugins A Must for Wordpress Blog

Filed Under (blog) by kimloon on 16-07-2009

Over the weekend, I had a chat with a friend. He is a Wordpress Theme Hacker. He is skillful in creating Wordpress Theme which is out of the normal.
wordpress_plugins
He shared with me that he do not believe in using Plugins or even Widget. He preferred to embed whatever he wants to on his customized Wordpress Theme. He only uses two plugins – Akismet and Related Articles.

I have worked with a number of Wordpress Blogs for both personal and community. I have installed many useful plugins for these blogs. I could not imagine why anyone would not believe in plugins.

The followings are some reasons why I find plugin is a MUST for all Wordpress Blogs.

The Definition of Blogging

Filed Under (blog) by kimloon on 01-07-2009

The definition of blogging is something that is very much in flux, as the new technologies that appear every day redefine what a blog is, what a blog can be, and what a blog should do. For many years, blogs were defined as text-based websites that kept records of days, similar to a captain’s log on a sailing ship. However, this started to change as the group of people who kept blogs became more diverse. The more bloggers began to explore the limits of the medium and of the technology that made it possible, the more the boundaries of what could be called a “blog” expanded.

Today, there are an abundance of photo blogs, and there are even video blogs as well. Mobile blogging devices may well change the definition of blogging entirely by making it possible for bloggers to create new kinds of posts. Another element of the blogosphere that is starting to redefine blogging is the corporate blog. As more companies hire writers to keep blogs with the sole purpose of creating positive buzz about their brand, bloggers across the globe are arguing about whether these manufactured blogs are really worthy of the name. Between all of these different forces that are constantly expanding and reshaping the blogosphere, it is difficult to imagine that the definition of what is and is not a blog will ever remain fixed for very long.

If you like what you read, please post post your comment below or subscribe to my blog via RSS or E-mail on new content.

Filed Under (blog) by kimloon on 06-05-2009

We shall go into the Fundamental 101 of blogging, especially the vocabulary. To understand blogs, you need to know the terms blog, platform, domain, and web host. Once you have mastered these key elements of blogging, you can enter any conversation about blogging with confidence. After you know what exactly a blog is, you will be on your way to master the fundamentals of a blog.

According to Wikipedia – “A blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Search Engine Traffic for a Community Centre Youth Group Website

Filed Under (blog, generating traffic) by kimloon on 01-05-2009

referralsitesFew months ago, I was tasked to set up a website for a Community Centre Youth Group. For the ease of updating, I chose Wordpress as the content management system engine for this website. And this was proven to be the right choice.

Everyday, there are new visitors found the website through search engines, like Yahoo! or Google. Do note that there are:
No submission to Social Bookmarking Sites
Or any additional effort used to drive traffic to this site.

On top of using Wordpress as the engine behind the website, there are other contributing factors.

The main content for this website is to post upcoming courses and activities at the community centre. Links are provided to send readers to the main site for signing up these courses and activities. In fact, most of the content is copied from the course registration website.

I Almost Missed a Genuine Comment on this Blog

Filed Under (blog) by kimloon on 25-04-2009

I have been using Akismet on this blog to filter off spam comments. Akismet is a must-have tool for Wordpress-based blog.

First it is free and most importantly it works. Before I installed Akismet on this blog, everyday, I had to delete tons of spam comments.

Since I get to know this tool from Atomic Blogging and install this, it has effectively removed hundreds of spam comments on this site. I just let it handle all the spam comments.

Few days ago, for some unknown reason, or maybe I just have this instinct and took a look at the list of spam comments. To my surprise, I found a genuine comment on this the list. Akismet is a wonderful tool, because once I approved the comment, this will be taken off the spam list.

How to Move Past ‘Newbie’ Status to Full-Fledged Affiliate Marketer

Filed Under (Affiliate Marketing, Making Money Online, blog) by kimloon on 30-03-2009

Every day there’s at least one person who discovers ‘affiliate marketing’ for the first time. And, every day, there’s at least one person, maybe that person is you, who goes back to the drawing board trying to figure out why they haven’t yet succeeded as wildly as they’d hoped.

No matter which category you fall into, I’d like to share some concepts with you that might make all the difference in the world to your future success. In fact, you just might learn from this article the one thing that helps you start earning real money.

It really all comes down these two mistakes that beginner’s make:

1. Promoting to many products at once (lack of focus), and..
2. Giving up too soon.

These two mistakes are related, and are actually self-reinforcing. It sounds obvious enough, but let me explain exactly how this scenario plays out.
