I had searched the web and tried a few suggested methods to clear the unwanted code to cause the WordPress Pharma Hack. So far, I do not have much luck in doing so. All I could do was to update my WordPress and all the plugins to the latest version.

I was much better luck in getting the posts back to the original conditions. I noticed that, in general, the damage caused by the WordPress Pharma Hack was putting unwanted links with those unwanted words in the posts in the form of text. Initially, I thought all I was to do was to edit individual post to remove these texts.

But after editing a few posts, I realized that I need a much efficient method to remove these texts. There are hundreds or even thousands of unwanted texts in all the posts.

I seek for a WordPress “Search and Replace” Plugin. There is one by Frank Bueltge (http://bueltge.de/wp-suchen-und-ersetzen-de-plugin/114/) which I find was quite match for this task.

In the “Search and Replace” portion, I first selected “Post Content”, put the unwanted text in the “Search for” text bar and leave the “Replace with” text blank. I repeated the process with all the possible text combination I could find. The record of the combination can be downloaded in this link. http://stopebizfrustration.com/?attachment_id=337

Each line is a combination. Do take note, that the process of updating this list is on-going. There will be more to be added to this list.

This process successfully removed much of the unwanted text caused by the Pharma Hack. However, there are still many unwanted text hidden in the posts which could not be easily identified. Examples are the unwanted texts damaged by more unwanted text. For these, I need to search for the post with the keywords, “amoxicillin”, “levitra”, “Viagra”, “Cialis” and “pharmacy”; then manually edit the posts.

Do take note that, the hack had already damaged some of the embedded items links, e.g. Youtube Videos in the posts. Much work has to be done for these.

At the meantime, I will continue to seek for a method to do a clean removal of the hack and prevention of further WordPress Pharma Hack.

These are 3 free plugins which I definitely use in the WordPress sites I created.

Akismet Plugin

In the internet world, there are lots of spams, including spam comments. On each day, there could be tens of spam comments on each WordPress omments, if not modulated, may not reflect well for the site.

Luckily, there is the Akismet plugin available. The Akismet is a free plugin which help to remove spam comments in our WordPress site. The use of Akismet requires registration for an API key.

Once registered, Akismet will effectively help to reduce the number of spam comment in the site, by marking them as spam. Sometime, a few spam comments may slip through. In my experience, the success rate for Akismet is over 98%.

Simple Tags Plugin

We always tag our post with keywords. This is to enable for the post to be easily found and organized. The default tagging function in WordPress only suggested the most commonly used keywords within the site. These keywords may not even be relevant to the post.

I am using the Simple Tag Plugin to help me in the Keyword tagging. The Simple Tags can help to go through the post. It would suggest relevant keywords from the site, Yahoo and other tools. This is very useful for lazy person like me. I just need to click and select the relevant keywords.

Yet Another Related Posts Plugin

I learned that there are plugins which would suggest related posts for further reading. These plugins would put an additional segment in each post. This segment provides links to posts within the site which are relevant to this post based on the keywords. (This is where the Simple Tag Plugin is so useful.)

In general, such related posts plugin would improve reader’s experience in the site. After reading a post, he or she would find it useful to check out relevant posts. And this would keep the reader interested in the site.

I found that there are a few related posts plugin available. So far, I have been using Yet Another Related Posts, and I believe it will be helpful for you as well.

3. Make constructive and beneficial blogs

Even if you are free to write anything you wan to say to the world, still, it would be better to create some write-ups that would be beneficial to your readers.

After all, its information technology that you have there so better be inclined to provide information rather than sheer quirky entertainment.

4. Avoid making multifaceted and complicated blogs

In order to have an interesting blogs, try not to use some highly technical and highfalutin words. After all, it is not a science discourse or a debate that you are making, so better stick to simple facts and short blogs.

Bear in mind that most people who use the Internet usually do more scanning than scrutinizing each site word for word. Therefore, it would be better to come with blogs that will not bore your readers just because you have these lengthy articles.

5. Make it interactive

As much as possible and if your capacity will allow it, make your blog interactive. Yu can do this by placing some video or audio clips in your blog.

You can even place an area for comments or for some feedback. In this way, you can get some impressions or reactions of other people. Who knows, you might even gain some friends just by making them feel at home in your blog site.

Indeed, blogs are not created just for the mere fun of it. It also has its own purpose in the world of the Internet.
Therefore, for people who wish to harness their craft, as far as writing is concerned, blogs are the best way to do it.

As they say, blogging is the contemporary term of creative and commercial writing.

Because I had limited Internet Access for the past week, I only noticed this mail yesterday. I had a shock when I went over to the WordPress Blog Sites I maintained. Most of them showed only a blank page.

Luckily, Joel included the link to the solution. In no time, all my sites are back up running as normal.

I highly recommend everyone to upgrade their WordPress blog sites to the latest version to prevent such thing from occurring to them.

A successful Blogger, Alvin, of Gather Success, shared his unpleasant experiences for using free web hosting and other free tools when he was starting out in his recent post. For some unknown reasons, his free accounts were suspended. He had to go through a series of trouble to re-work his internet business.

I also have my bad experiences in using the free tools and resources for the Internet Business. One of commonly used tools was a link cloaking program or tools to make an URL short.

I started using free pinurl.com to shorten my link url and affiliate links. I have posted the shortened url in many sites and drove quite a fair amount of traffic to various sites.

After a few months, without any warning, pinurl.com was shutdown. And worse, I only realized this much later.

All those past effort for driving traffic are now down into the drain. The impact of lost potential traffic is only one of the consequences. I have to go to the individual postings to edit the link to a workable one. Much time and energy was wasted doing so. I could have put these time and energy into other aspects of my Internet Business.

Another problem I faced was that, not all postings can be changed. Imagine what would anybody think when he or buy as not workable.

The followings are some reasons why I find plugin is a MUST for all WordPress Blogs.

Mostly Free
Most of the plugins out there are free. We do not need to pay a single cent to install these plugins onto our WordPress Blog. Of course, we can opt to give a small donation to the creator of these plugins.

Easy to Use
Wordpress has made it so easy to search, install and upgrade plugins. In fact, we can easily do all these three within the WordPress Administration.

We just need to click on “Add New” under the plugins subsection. From there, We can easily search for the plug-in we want. After we found the plug-in we want, we just need a few more mouse click and we have installed the plugin. No downloading or uploading of the installation files.

Upgrading the plugins is even easier. WordPress will automatically tell us when there is a newer version of the plug-in. We just need to go to the installed plugins page, click on the automatic upgrade.

Added Features with Widgets
Wordpress on it own only provides the blogging functions. We can easily add features and expand the capabilities with Widgets came with the plugins.

Event Calendars and Photo Gallery are examples of such plugins.

Event Calendars plug-in is very useful tool for community event organizer blog. Any upcoming events can be posted on to the blog. The plug-in provides Widgets to show upcoming events and events calendar. These widgets help to draw participants to these events.

There are many photo gallery plugs-in available. These photo gallery plugins not only allow us to organize the photos. These also provide Widgets for random pictures or the latest pictures.

Enhance Readers’ Interest
The widgets came with the plugins can also help to enhance readers’ interest.

A picture is more attractive to the reader than words. The random pictures or latest pictures widget from can help to generate interest from readers to check out other posts or items in the blog.

Another useful plugin is the related articles plugin. It automatically adds links to posts with are related to the current one being read by the reader. This continues to attract the reader to read more post in the blog.

Save Time
Some plugs-in are designed to help us save time. The most typical one is the spam filter plugins. Imagine the time saved by not having to go through tons and tons of spam comments and find the genuine ones.

Another one is the Tag suggestions plug-in. It will search the local tags and the internet, to suggest keywords tags relevant to the post.

There are many reasons why we need to install plugins in our WordPress Blog. The above are just some of the reasons. Unless we install the plugins in your blogs, we would not know what we missed.

There are many free plugins available out there for WordPress. Most plugins optimize and enhance the power of the website.

With the recommendation from Atomic Blogging, we installed some very useful plugins on this site. One is Google Sitemap. It will automatically generate a site map and submit the map to search engines. Now the search engines are updated with the latest content from the site

Update Frequently

Most search engines like regularly updated sites and rank these sites higher. The reason is that this proves the website is alive and up-to-date.

There is at least 1 new post every week on average. This consistently feeds the search engines with new content, the contents were “copied” from the main site, we put in the effort to identify the keywords in each post and use these keywords as tags.

Many do not realize that, this will help the search engines to identify the keywords in the post as well. And when people search for these keywords, the search engines will match the tags and the relevant post will be shown.

I had made the right choice for using the WordPress as the engine behind this community centre youth group website. Regular posting, plugins and tag will help to bring in traffic through the search engines. I believe this success can be easily duplicated for any organization’s website.

First it is free and most importantly it works. Before I installed Akismet on this blog, everyday, I had to delete tons of spam comments.

Since I get to know this tool from Atomic Blogging and install this, it has effectively removed hundreds of spam comments on this site. I just let it handle all the spam comments.

Few days ago, for some unknown reason, or maybe I just have this instinct and took a look at the list of spam comments. To my surprise, I found a genuine comment on this the list. Akismet is a wonderful tool, because once I approved the comment, this will be taken off the spam list.

In our daily life, there are many tools which help to make our life easier. And we have the tendency to take tools for granted. But we also have to accept the fact that, these are no such thing as 100% fool proof tools, no matter how effective these tools are.

Akismet is a wonderful tool for a blog to filter off spam. Like any other tools, this is no 100% fool proof. It may falsely identify a genuine comment as spam. Although the chance of such incident is very low, we have to periodically check our spam list to ensure that we do not miss out genuine comments.

I have approved that genuine comment to remove this from the spam list. Through this incident, I have to do my part to check periodically on the spam list, not only on the blogs, but also on my e-mails. I do not want to miss out any genuine comment or e-mail.

Despite of this incident, I still agreed that Akismet is a must-have tools to filter off spam comments on a blog.
