Some time back, this site was hit by the WordPress Pharma Hack. It was a shock to me. There are many unwanted words like “amoxicillin”, “levitra”, “Viagra”, “Cialis”, etc, linking to some online drug stores, in every post. There were two things which I had to do. First, was to find and clear the any codes that caused the hack. And second, was to get all my posts back to the original conditions.

I had searched the web and tried a few suggested methods to clear the unwanted code to cause the WordPress Pharma Hack. So far, I do not have much luck in doing so. All I could do was to update my WordPress and all the plugins to the latest version.

I was much better luck in getting the posts back to the original conditions. I noticed that, in general, the damage caused by the WordPress Pharma Hack was putting unwanted links with those unwanted words in the posts in the form of text. Initially, I thought all I was to do was to edit individual post to remove these texts.

But after editing a few posts, I realized that I need a much efficient method to remove these texts. There are hundreds or even thousands of unwanted texts in all the posts.

I seek for a WordPress “Search and Replace” Plugin. There is one by Frank Bueltge (http://bueltge.de/wp-suchen-und-ersetzen-de-plugin/114/) which I find was quite match for this task.

In the “Search and Replace” portion, I first selected “Post Content”, put the unwanted text in the “Search for” text bar and leave the “Replace with” text blank. I repeated the process with all the possible text combination I could find. The record of the combination can be downloaded in this link. http://stopebizfrustration.com/?attachment_id=337

Each line is a combination. Do take note, that the process of updating this list is on-going. There will be more to be added to this list.

This process successfully removed much of the unwanted text caused by the Pharma Hack. However, there are still many unwanted text hidden in the posts which could not be easily identified. Examples are the unwanted texts damaged by more unwanted text. For these, I need to search for the post with the keywords, “amoxicillin”, “levitra”, “Viagra”, “Cialis” and “pharmacy”; then manually edit the posts.

Do take note that, the hack had already damaged some of the embedded items links, e.g. Youtube Videos in the posts. Much work has to be done for these.

At the meantime, I will continue to seek for a method to do a clean removal of the hack and prevention of further WordPress Pharma Hack.

I hope everyone had a good laugh on the funny video about call center. I am glad that my web hosting, GVO, does not provide such customer support when I contracted GVO. I found some interesting functions which I could not understand. So I e-mailed the technical support and asked for information.

Whenever I sent an enquiry e-mail, I would expect that I would receive a respond on the following morning or couple of hours later. This was the usual respond time.

To my amaze, I received a reply when I returned from my shower. The respond time was minutes and not hours. And within minutes, I have my inquiry answered to my satisfaction via e-mails.

In fact, after that I received e-mails from GVO to ensure that the doubt was cleared.

And in the recent iFrame attack case, as I mentioned in the earlier post, it was GVO who sent e-mails to us to inform us of this attack. And throughout, they kept us posted on the updates on the security measures on the servers to minimize future attacks.

Overall, I am glad that GVO do not provide the customer service standard as in the funny video posted. In fact, they are doing more to provide customer service for fast respond and ensuring enquiry answered.

Because I had limited Internet Access for the past week, I only noticed this mail yesterday. I had a shock when I went over to the WordPress Blog Sites I maintained. Most of them showed only a blank page.

Luckily, Joel included the link to the solution. In no time, all my sites are back up running as normal.

I highly recommend everyone to upgrade their WordPress blog sites to the latest version to prevent such thing from occurring to them.

And I wonder….. when was the last time, I received such alert email from the hosting company.

During my course as a webmaster for various volunteering community, there are a few members who wanted to find out more on maintaining a website. All these websites are running on a Content Management System (CMS). I gladly create administrator accounts for these members. Most of these members were confused on the first sight of the administrator page. They do not know what to do. Some asked for further instructions. Out of these, few went further to the next stage of adding an article or post to the site.

I could understand the confusion, because I went through the same r organization. And they wanted to website to have a CMS engine. Although I have experience in writing webpages using HTML and writing website scripts, that was the first time I came across the term CMS.

Luckily, there was another webmaster who was working with me. He has the technical knowledge in creating CMS based website. So he started to create a Joomla! CMS based site. Upon receiving the account information, I logged in and started learning how to organize and add the contents.

Initially, I was confused. I had no idea on the terms used. I did not know what was section, category or menu meant in the Joomla! CMS. So I began to add in the structure which I think what the organization wanted. I created a number of section, category and menu items. I also added in the articles in a manner which was quite differed from what the organization wanted.

Coincidentally, the other webmaster was also online working on the site. He was quite shocked on the way I was adding content to the site. He quickly called me and briefly explained structure wanted.

From there, I had better understanding on the system and structure. The rest was history. I would install a CMS for all the future sites which I was the webmaster. I also explored other available plugin or add-on modules to enhance the usefulness of these sites.

Through this initial experience, I also learnt an important lesson on CMS. The best way to get started with CMS based website was to start messing with it and adding items. The key feature of CMS is that no technical knowledge is required to do so. The best thing about most CMS is that the administrator Graphic User Interface (GUI) page was written in such a way that, only allowed functions were displayed. Till now, I have not found a way to cripple a CMS-based website using the administrator GUI page. As long as nothing was deleted, most of the damage was reversible.

Just like my first contact with CMS, I just need to re-organize the items and soon it was what the organization wanted.

Administrating Joomla! or any Content Management System (CMS) based website can be confusing initially for most people. The best way to learn about it is to mess with it and add items, just like I did initially. And soon, most will discover that CMS is a very useful tool to maintain a website without any technical knowledge required.

Some years ago, I was approached to be one of the webmasters for a community website. During the first discussion meeting, one requirement for the website was that it must be running on a Content Management System (CMS) engine.

That was the first time I heard of this term, CMS. Luckily, the other webmaster was a well technical knowledgeable in this area. As such, he selected Joomla! as the CMS engine and set it up. Soon, I focused in putting in the content and along the way learnt the rope of using CMS.

From that point onwards, I will put in a CMS of some form for all the websites I managed. I usually put in WordPress if Blog-based site is sufficient or Joomla! for more complex sites.

There are few good reasons why CMS is a must for modern websites.

1. Easy to Setup

On average, most people would only require about 5 minutes to setup a WordPress Blog-based website. It would take more time to setup a Joomla! based site. But the whole process would seldom require more than an hour.

There was no coding or creating lists of files. It just require the server to have MySql database and php scripting language.

2. Easy to Update

In the past, we needed to edit the html pages, and upload the pages to the server using ftp.

Using CMS means that, the webmaster can easily update the site as long as there is Internet access and a browser. So the webmasters can change the content almost anytime, anywhere, even using a public computer at the Internet Café or Library.

3. Easy to Create New Look

Recently, site a new look. I edited a new template and set the new default template. The site has a new look, and there is no change in the content.

WordPress makes use of themes while Joomla! uses template. These allow the webmaster to easily change the look of site without the trouble of re-creating the site.

Is there a conspiracy between the Rich and the Governments to make the Rich even Richer? Are there network connections which the people in the governments are voted in to make Robert Kiyosaki’s latest book is “Conspiracy of the Rich”. In this book, Robert once again highlighted the importance of financial education especially in the time like today.

I strongly recommend everyone to read this book “Conspiracy of the Rich”. This book has opened a new prospective for me which I believe it will help anyone out there who is doing any form of businesses, including Internet Marketing.

Robert Kiyosaki opened the many people’s eyes with his first book, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. In that book, his shared his experience on what his Poor Dad and Rich Dad taught him about money, shaping him who he is today.

In this latest book “Conspiracy of the Rich”, he exposed the danger situation we are in today, and reasons causing the danger. He shared his experiences during his days fighting in Vietnam and valuable lessons in the war. He smartly related his experiences with the history and what is happening today.

He further shared his advices on how we can benefit from the super depression, making money like nobody before. To him, the depression is the opportunity of the lifetime. He wish as many people as possible would benefit from the depression.

This book is currently available for reading online for free until 7th July 2009. This means, we have limited time to read this book. Similarly, we have very limited time to get ourselves educated financially to benefit from this depression.

The good news is, after 7th July 2009, this book will be available in hardcopy in bookstore from September 2009 onwards. But the opportunity to benefit from the depression will only be available in the next lifetime.

Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad Poor Dad” is available at Amazon.com.

I have been working of a few community websites. Recently, one of these websites went offline. The reason was the domain was expired. I did not notice it until another person informed me about it.

I quickly dug out the old e-mails, to seek out the passwords and renew this domain. After that, it took another about 24 hours before the domain was live again. This could be a simple thing, but it could be destructive to the site, considering the down time, and the potential number of visitors.

One common problem with community websites was that, the domain and the hosting plan was registered by somebody else instead of the person working on it at the present. It could be registered by one member and another member took over the website. It usually happens when the community committee members’ term expired and a new team came in to take over.

Other reason is that, one member registered the domain and another member was tasked which I faced. The renewal notice was not sent to me but to the other member. Lucky for me, this member forwarded the details to me, which I could react swiftly to renew this domain.

With this lesson, I had put in my calendar to remind myself one year later, to check renew this domain. This simple step would help to prevent another incident of website going offline.

There was nothing on making money online method. Yet, he covered the most important aspect g we do.

If I would to take home a lesson from this chapter, it would be “Focus and Follow through a Proven Method”.

All methods listed in the book worked and had helped many others to succeed in Internet Marketing. We need to stay focus on a method and follow every single step.

With this book, we do not have to spend $50,000 on Internet Market Stuffs. We just need to invest in this book, stay focus on a proven method and will start making money online.
