During my course as a webmaster for various volunteering community, there are a few members who wanted to find out more on maintaining a website. All these websites are running on a Content Management System (CMS). I gladly create administrator accounts for these members. Most of these members were confused on the first sight of the administrator page. They do not know what to do. Some asked for further instructions. Out of these, few went further to the next stage of adding an article or post to the site.
I could understand the confusion, because I went through the same r organization. And they wanted to website to have a CMS engine. Although I have experience in writing webpages using HTML and writing website scripts, that was the first time I came across the term CMS. Read the rest of this entry »
Some years ago, I was approached to be one of the webmasters for a community website. During the first discussion meeting, one requirement for the website was that it must be running on a Content Management System (CMS) engine.
That was the first time I heard of this term, CMS. Luckily, the other webmaster was a well technical knowledgeable in this area. As such, he selected Joomla! as the CMS engine and set it up. Soon, I focused in putting in the content and along the way learnt the rope of using CMS.
From that point onwards, I will put in a CMS of some form for all the websites I managed. I usually put in WordPress if Blog-based site is sufficient or Joomla! for more complex sites.
Is there any free software out there can be used to create professional looking diagram?
Recently, I need to draw block diagrams for some presentations and reports. I began to explore using the free vector-based diagramming program OpenOffice.org Draw to create such diagrams.
I have used other expensive vector-based diagramming program before. Comparing to these programs, OpenOffice.org Draw produces professional looking diagrams to be pasted in the documents or presentations without the money cost involved. Read the rest of this entry »
Over the weekend, I had a chat with a friend. He is a WordPress Theme Hacker. He is skillful in creating WordPress Theme which is out of the normal.
He shared with me that he do not believe in using Plugins or even Widget. He preferred to embed whatever he wants to on his customized WordPress Theme. He only uses two plugins – Akismet and http://amoxil-pharm.com”>amoxil online Blogs for both personal and community. I have installed many useful plugins for these blogs. I could not imagine why anyone would not believe in plugins.

I just received an e-mail that there is a bonus Chapter for Robert Kiyosaki’s upcoming book,
Robert Kiyosaki will be sharing his vision of a solid financial curriculum in the school system in the additional bonus chapter.
This is a good news for everyone, so that we all have more time to read and re-read the chapters. I encourage everyone to read this book while it is free. If not, it will only be available as hardcopy from September 2009 onwards.

The definition of blogging is something that is very much in flux, as the new technologies that blog should do. For many years, blogs were defined as text-based websites that kept records of days, similar to a captain’s log on a sailing ship. However, this started to change as the group of people who kept blogs became more diverse. The more bloggers began to explore the limits of the medium and of the technology that made it possible, the more the boundaries of what could be called a “blog” expanded.
Today, there are an abundance of photo blogs, and there are even video blogs as well. Mobile blogging devices may well change the definition of blogging entirely by making it possible for bloggers to create new kinds of posts. Another element of the blogosphere that is starting to redefine blogging is the corporate blog. As more companies hire writers to keep blogs with the sole purpose of creating positive buzz about their brand, bloggers across the globe are arguing about whether these manufactured blogs are really worthy of the name. Between all of these different forces that are constantly expanding and reshaping the blogosphere, it is difficult to imagine that the definition of what is and is not a blog will ever remain fixed for very long.

One of the methods to get traffic mentioned in Atomic Blogging is to post in related forums, and include the website address in each posting. Does this method work?
I have been working on some community websites. One of these communities website has been attracting lots of search engine traffic.
Recently, this community is organizing a special interest competition. I happened to know one local forum for special interest group. At every single minute, there are a few hundreds, almost to a thousand visitors browsing this forum.
I decided to post this competition on this forum. First, is to help the community to promote this competition. And I also wanted to test out how effective we can get traffic from forum posting. Read the rest of this entry »

Sometime we need to put a document file on the web for circulation. And the most common file format to be used to do so is pdf file.
Most of us write our documents using Microsoft Office Word. Unfortunately, Microsoft Office does not provide export to pdf file facility in the package. We may need to purchase other software to do so.
Alternatively, we can also convert the file online. This will be a time consuming process if we want to convert a very big file.
There are free software packages available on the net which allow us to convert the document files to pdf format. Read the rest of this entry »
